We are getting a tremendous response to our August contest -- but in your enthusiasm, all of you aren't reading the rules carefully. (I know, I know, it's like reading the directions for assembling a bookcase ... nobody does it.)

The main rule that several of you have overlooked? Everyone is limited to one photo per theme per month.

What may be confusing some of you who are creating a new Flickr account is the Flickr policy that you have to upload 5 photos into your account before Flickr will include your account in its Search. Upload 5 photos, but make sure the contest tags are on just one of them. If you use our Uploader, which adds the contest tags for you, just go into your Flickr account and remove the tags from all but one picture. Let me know if you are having trouble.

I've emailed everyone who has more than one photo tagged for the contest, and everyone so far has readily removed the contest tags from all but one photo. Some of you haven't yet, so get a move on!

Anyone who still has more than one photo entered as of the close of the contest at midnight on Aug. 31 will be disqualified. Sorry, but it's the only fair thing to do. Thanks for honoring this, and thanks for entering some really great photos.

Life and wildlife in Madagascar
For years before I started college, I knew I wanted to spend a semester studying abroad, but I wasn't sure where. By my junior year at Brandeis, I made up my mind to travel somewhere off the beaten path, and, of course, Madagascar is pretty far off the beaten path for someone like me....
An essay about Rebirth Workshops
Now that it's been several months since I returned from a week-long Rebirth Workshop in Mississippi, I'm happy to look back and provide an overview of what we did that made it such an intense experience for me as a photographer....

Thinking of ditching your separate camera and moving to just using your phone for all your photos? What apps should you go for? Instagram made headlines recently after being bought by Facebook for $1 billion. What does it include, and what else is out there?...
