OK, everybody: We've gotten almost all of the eligible photos to show up in our Voting Machine. In many cases, the issue was a conflict between the time zone on user accounts and the time zone our server was using ... but we eliminated that as a search factor, and those photos showed up.

However, there still are 4 photos not showing up in the Voting Machine, and quite frankly, we are stumped. They are:

Footprints Pemaquid Point Light.jpg Sand Sculpture Festival.jpg Sunset fisherman.jpg

We don't know if it's a permissioning issue or just a glitch in Flickr's API. I've asked those photographers to try uploading new versions via our Uploader, found on this page. (They'll just have to change the September tag to August.)

We may have to just say sorry to those four photographers and ask them to try again in another contest. We'll make a call on that tomorrow and let you know when voting will re-open -- perhaps as soon as tomorrow afternoon.

By the way, we took a suggestion from user Cait and randomized the photos; they will mix every time you reload or come to the page. That way the pictures at the end have as good a shot at getting noticed by voters as those at the beginning.

Thanks for your patience. In the meantime, don't forget about our September contest, with the theme of "My Neighborhood" -- there already are 23 entries. Don't be left out ...

Life and wildlife in Madagascar
For years before I started college, I knew I wanted to spend a semester studying abroad, but I wasn't sure where. By my junior year at Brandeis, I made up my mind to travel somewhere off the beaten path, and, of course, Madagascar is pretty far off the beaten path for someone like me....
An essay about Rebirth Workshops
Now that it's been several months since I returned from a week-long Rebirth Workshop in Mississippi, I'm happy to look back and provide an overview of what we did that made it such an intense experience for me as a photographer....
