Vote for the October theme

Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff September 26, 2008 01:50 PM

In November or December, we will start to feature two contests, with different themes, per month: One will be a General category for topics of widespread interest. The other will be a Challenge category for more advanced amateurs who want to stretch their imaginations and test the limits of their cameras and lenses.

Meanwhile, it's time to choose the theme for October. And please leave suggestions for future themes. Thanks.

  1. How will these contests be judged?
Will we be able to enter both contests at the same time, and could we use the same photo for both contests?

  1. Hi, Rich ... as with the September contest, we'll ask a different professional photographer to winnow the entries to a manageable voting number: Probably 25 or so.

Yes, you can enter both contests at the same time, and sure, you can use the same photo for both if you want. Anybody else see a reason why not?

  1. Excellent, I love the idea of a more challenging contest as well as the general contest.

  1. I was driving today in the horrible rain and thought - "Oooh, 'the elements' would be a great theme!"

DECEMBER'S THEME Toys

You can go in many different directions here: Studio shots of interesting or antique pieces, environmental shots with interesting angles, toys as props in funny scenarios, or images that incorporate a child's joy. Just make sure that the toy is the main focus of your shot. Your photo must be taken this month.
Deadline: Midnight December 31
