This week's "G" photo

Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff November 26, 2008 02:54 PM

The RAW Dawg whose photo was published in the Globe's "G" section today was Caitlin Robbins of West Newton, whose photo from Cape Verde was praised by Globe photographer Dina Rudick when she did a portfolio critique of Cait's work last month.

Here's how the page looked in print:

  1. Congrats on getting published.

I wish I'd seen this in print. Online it has a slight blue cast in the mountain range. Plus it lacks pop in the colors.
I also think the pic would be better if cropping were applied. I'd start by pulling down the upper left corner until the left edge is at the green boat and the upper edge is just above the mountain range. The main subject starts with the beached boats. Then draws your eye to the activity in the middle. Then to the distant boats and the mountain range.
I also wonder what the composition would look like if you'd lowered the camera. In capturing views like this, I try to remind myself to change my perspective by moving my body. Not just in and out but up and down as well.
