Your September 'Jobs' entries

Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff October 9, 2009 02:16 PM

Final gallery added: Five full-screen galleries containing all of your eligible entries for the September "Jobs" contest have been posted. Our judge, Glen Cooper, will narrow the field to 50, and we'll open the Voting Machine next week.

One caveat: Given that we have just 130 photos, Glen may decide to narrow the field to 25 instead of 50. We did that once in a previous contest that had fewer than 200 entries.

Meanwhile, don't forget about the October contest, which is open now. As of 3 p.m. Friday, we already had 71 entries. Don't wait until the last minute!

  1. Are shots taken from an iPhone not eligible for upload? I had an entry photo that did not make the gallery.
    Thanks

  1. Sure, Paul, they're eligible. Here are the entries on Flickr (when you search on the 4 contest tags):

If you're photo isn't there, it could be for several reasons. Read over the rules of our contests carefully, noting the 5-photo Flickr rule, tagging, privacy settings, etc., and make sure your account and photo are set correctly.

You can find the rules here:

If your photo still doesn't show up in Flickr's results, then email me a link to your Flickr photo page to raw@boston.com and I'll see if I can spot anything.

  1. Hi, Mary -- We don't post the Voting Machine until the judge has narrowed the field. I'll keep you posted.

  1. I'm with Mary, it will be November before we get the voting machine up. We make the deadlines, you should have one, too.

  1. I understand everyone is anxious. Let me explain the process again:

After a contest closes, we don't do anything with the entries for 5 days so that Flickr's search has time to find new accounts with contest entries. Then we build full-screen galleries so that you and the judges can see the photos in their best light (and because we don't want the judges seeing screen names in Flickr).

That process was delayed a few days this month because last week we launched two more Your Town sites -- Brookline and Framingham (that's another area of Boston.com that I oversee).

Those galleries were finished Friday; the judge, who is doing this gratis, is reviewing the galleries today and tomorrow and will send me his final 25 choices sometime tomorrow. We'll then put those in a full-screen gallery and then post the Voting Machine. I would expect to have the VM up on Thursday.
