The 'Pink' galleries

Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff November 2, 2009 09:32 AM

Folks, the October 'Pink' contest has some of the best photos we've ever received. We've built five galleries to show them off. Later, I'll introduce our judge ... she's pretty interesting!

  1. Holly, run a search on Flickr on the 4 contest tags to see if Flickr has found your new account yet. And email a link to your photo page to raw@boston.com.

  1. My October "pink" entry doesn't appear in any of the galleries. It was submitted in mid-October and was properly tagged. Do you eliminate photos as you do the galleries?

  1. I have the same question as Carolyn. I checked my entry (posted Oct 21), it appears to have the correct tags and I cannot find it on any of the galleries. I might also add that the various stipulations, miscellaneous ids and passwords, and vague instructions make this contest a challenge in itself.

  1. Hi, Pat -- there really aren't any miscellaneous IDs or passwords required ... entering the contest is really quite easy: You just upload your contest photo to your Flickr account, then add the 4 separate tags for that month's contest. And the tags follow a pattern, so I'm sure you'll get used to it:

    boston.com
    contest
    monthyear (such as October2009)
    theme (such as pink)

Once in awhile, such as in the current November contest, we require that the photo be taken within the month of the contest -- that idea came from other photographers like yourself as a way to get us all out and about shooting photos.

Meanwhile, send a link to your contest photo to raw@boston.com and I'll take a look at it.

NOVEMBER'S THEME Silhouettes

Convey emotion, set a mood, or create an air of mystery ... silhouettes can convey a lot in a handful of pixels. It's a challenging theme; position your subject in front of a light source, and expose for the light. One rule: Your photo must be taken this month.
Deadline: Midnight November 30
