Okay, so this may seem a little self-serving, but honestly, I'm choosing this theme for you as well.

We've had a couple of challenging assignments in a row (Lines and Curves, Self-Portraits), so let's do one that's also should be challenging, but fun.

In addition, we launched a new Pets section on -- that's what's been keeping me so busy -- and I thought a tie-in between RAW and that new section would be interesting.

So let's give it a try.

I'm looking for pets who are playing -- running, catching a Frisbee, swimming, playing with a toy, playing with another pet, playing video games. These are action shots, not portraits. I want some imagination and creativity, interesting angles and nice lighting. Make me nod admiringly at the athleticism of your pets or laugh out loud at their antics.

If you don't own a pet, photograph a friend's or relative's, or shoot at a local park.

You do NOT have to take your photo this month -- past shots are okay. Just make sure they meet the criteria outlined above.

This month's Flickr tags are: contest August2010 pets

One photo per photographer. The deadline is midnight Aug. 31.

If this is your first time entering, please read the rules on this page very carefully.

For years before I started college, I knew I wanted to spend a semester studying abroad, but I wasn't sure where. By my junior year at Brandeis, I made up my mind to travel somewhere off the beaten path, and, of course, Madagascar is pretty far off the beaten path for someone like me....
