I'm thinking of making October our color month every year -- what do you think? And purple is such a fantastically interesting color, that's what I chose for this month.
I looked up purple in Wikipedia, and it says that the color is associated with royalty, imperialism, nobility, Lent, Easter, Mardi Gras, episcopacy, upper class, poison(!), friendship, passion, sharing, wisdom, rage, homosexuality(?), contrition, sympathy, extreme, and sophistication.
Now there's some food for thought!
Your purple can be as vivid as an array of deep purple pansies or as subtle as the violet on a ballerina's dress. But like the photo above, your purple has to be the focus of your image.
Purple is not a sideshow.
We'll try our beta photo upload tool again -- thanks for your patience as we work out the bugs. A few rules:
1. Please reduce the file size of your photo -- the huge files we're getting are slowing the load times of the galleries.
Size horizontals to 1024px wide and verticals to 500px deep.
And if you know how to change the dpi to 96, please do. That's the screen resolution of a PC (a Mac is 72), so anything more than that is wasted online.
In Photoshop, you can Save for Web under the File menu, then choose jpeg and maximum.
2. One photo per person.
3. Your photo does NOT have to be taken this month.
4. No watermarks with your name. I don't want the judge seeing any names.
5. The deadline is midnight Oct. 31.
Did I forget anything? If you have any problems, as always, write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
NOTE: We'll have a Fall Foliage Photo Challenge from Oct. 15 to Nov. 15. Your photos MUST be taken this fall (but not necessarily during those dates), so get ready for Columbus Day weekend and hope it doesn't rain.
