New life begins after unspeakable tragedy
In the days after Melissa Santiago's murder, a social worker told family friend Maria Dickerson that no relatives had come forward to claim her four young children, and they would probably be placed in separate foster homes.
"Stop right there," Maria said. She had known these children since they were babies. "These kids must be kept together. Give them to me."
