Well said good sir! Your logic is beyond dispute IMO, and I really hope the Red Sox management wakes up before it's too late and gets something done. Another point to consider is that we have NEVER be more »

A bit of a head scratcher for me to be honest. We balk at picking up Shields, whom we desperately need NOW, but go all in for a guy 3yrs away from the bigs, and pay big bucks to do it? Don't get me wr more »

This is exactly my position. I also fear a possible sophmore slump from Vaz this season, as pitchers will try to work around him a tad more. Can he make the adjustments needed to even come close to a more »

I think we really need to make something happen here. We have an OF log jam and some bottle necked prospects trapped behind vets. Our farm is stocked wide and deep, if we wouldn't trade youth now...wh more »

The sad truth is the American people have the very worst health care system in existance in the world today. We have great doctors and technology, so that's why Sultans fly here to get treatment for w more »

JBJ could have an OPS of 1250 after spring training, and he'd still deserve no chance to win a spot in our already crowded OF. Nobody was harder on JBJ than I last season-nor more accurate in assessin more »

I won't be done with this thread until the mental midgets at ESPN have apologized for lying and promulgating a false story. The NFL Commish needs to be thrown out, and the NFL needs to offer a public more »

How do the Red Sox not make a serious play for this guy? DUMB!!!!! He went faaar cheaper than I would have ever thought, but reports suggest no offer was even made by the Red Sox. That's going to make more »

I gotta go with James Shields....oops! I forgot, the Red Sox napped and didn't even make an offer for him. Hmmm.....maybe Panda?

Good points all Notin and I agree with most of what you said. Absolutely BP's are a HUGE part of any pitching staff, though in a short 5 or 7 game series nothing trumps a stud ace starter-including Mi more »

I know why we made the deal. We're rolling the dice that he'll fit in well and perform at max capability. But ask yourself why HE would want this deal. Is he expecting to perform poorly...and thus thi more »

I'd sign Shields, but he's the lesser pitcher among Scherzer, Lester, and Hamels. He's also most certainly not going to be the bargain some here seem to think he is. He'll be signed for roughly 6 yrs more »

Looks like I may have said we'd be fav's for 2015+16-I stand corrected. Of course, you'll never hear me predict a WS win for any team before the season starts...too many variables and too much time to more »

Well, if the shoe fits... I consider dice rolls like this to be a waste of time, done more to give the appearance of addressing our needs, than actually meeting them. No puppies were slaughtered, and more »

I completely agree. Had they scored on that play Carroll would be a genious right now. I agree with those saying I'd give Lynch one shot at it 1st, with a plan to call a quick TO if the effort failed. more »

I have never said adding Hamels or Shields would make us favorites to win the World Series. I said adding them to our present team would give us a shot to legitimately compete for a ring. I do believe more »

Great points Hill. I like Xander and think he might be a decent MLB player one day. But his defense will always be somewhat limited, and his offense is a work in progress possibly several years away. more »

I'm simply pointing out that the goal here is NOT the same as the small market clubs have: to somehow, miraculously, stumble into the playoffs where "anything can happen." That's nice-for them! Our LA more »
