Maybe this would be a good idea for a while, and even help fight climate change. But if we don't get on the ball cutting emissions, what happens when it's too hot to grow bananas in New England?

Make fun of Al Gore if you want, but don't make fun of climate change. It's not funny.

The carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere keeps going up without the legislature voting on it, so why can't the gas tax (inadequate as it is for a countermeasure) go up automatically too?
Posted 09/30/2014 10:15:37 EDT
Maybe we should put a price on carbon by a tax and dividend system or by cap and trade, and keep some of this flooding from happening.

What a stupid thing to do. But maybe the tax would have survived if it had returned all of its proceeds to the Australian people so as to make it revenue-neutral.

This article sits strangely beside the story in last Sunday's Globe Magazine about sea level rise in Boston Harbor. All of us, including the developers and the rest of the business community, should more »

Why wasn't this the top story on page one?

I didn't say that we can stop the effects of our carbon emissions; who-cares-1940 is right to say that the carbon will stay in the atmosphere for a long time and that the emissions we have already mad more »

There's not much here about the cause of all this, the carbon emissions. If we can start to cut these - say starting with the current meeting in Warsaw - we can do a lot to minimize the future floodi more »

Why wasn't this story on page 1 of the paper (just a small reference to the article inside)? And why was it so hard to find on the website? A story about a serious threat to Earth deserves better tr more »

Is this supposed to be an optimistic article?

How can anyone write an article like this without mentioning climate change? AIR Worldwide certainly takes it into account as a bit of googling shows but it didn't make its way into the Globe.

I can't judge djm71's comment since I know nothing about MEMA and what it has done and hasn't done. It would be good to see some articles about this, including some comments from climate scientist abo more »

We may need to see some optimism like this, but I cannot understand how anyone can write about the future without mentioning climate change. We can be greatly thankful that Mitt Romney, dubious about more »
