We've seen WMB the better part of 2 seasons. He can't do much at third. On the other hand the left side with Drew and XB looked really good. Why mess with success? We may have seen the last of Drew bu more »

Gosh, I'm PNGed for riffing off one of the standard spam items here in a comment about the umps. Good grief.

All good points Pete. However the team may be defined by its character and chemistry, neither of those things is as important in game five as basic execution by the pitchers, hitters and fielders. And more »

^ If by "has" you mean some sort of statistcial certainty I can agree he is "due." But I totally disagree if by "has" you mean Drew has to hit for the Sox to win. He does not. He has to field for the more »

Well at least they have their best overall lineup in place, considering Nap has to sit. That's a start. I don't know if Farrell was scared straight by WMB's miscarriages or he was just that desperate more »

John, to me last night's loss was devastating in light of the tremendous uncertainty surrounding tonight's Sox starter and who is coming first out of the pen if he falters in the 5th inning or earlier more »

Pedey does not make those mistakes. He may have spoken ill-advisedly about Valentine, but his on field resume is unmarred.

I have seen nothing from Bogaerts at SS that would indicate he should play there on a daily basis, optimally. And his play at third is not obviously superior to WMB as far as getting to and catching t more »

I do find it fascinating so many people are down on Salty now yet so many want to yank Drew and play that no-hit, no-field Will Errorwhiff at third. Salty has always been a lousy defender (though "muc more »

Koji tops out at 89 and has had a nice mlb career, not just htis season.
Problem is he won't be able to locate either if he's not 100% and that is the problem.

I think Drew gets that out. He has done it all year. It's not just a better throw. He gets to the ball quicker etiher because of positioning or superior quickness, he gets the throw off quicker and he more »

I can't see Napoli at third. That's desperation.

The whining about Iggy has got to stop. Drew has played better than Iggy in the field in the playoffs, and you wouldn't be getting anything out of Iggy at the plate also.

It's not true that the Sox have not done enough offensively to win. To repeat, all three games have been lost due to atrocious defense by the losing teams.
Posted 10/27/2013 04:41:33 EDT
Forget about those decisions already. Does WMB start and Drew sit tonight? If you pull Drew in a tie game, obviously WMB plays tonight. I disagree because XB at short and WMB at 3rd are a train wreck, more »

You are correct about Salty but totally mistaken about Drew.
Posted 10/27/2013 01:37:28 EDT
The Sox could easily be up 3-0 now. Do you not realize that all three games have been lost by atrocious defense? This is the W-friggin-S. These games can turn on pitching and defense, and they have.

I disagree. You just saw what happens when you cross your fingers. Plus WMB is not the hitter we hope he could be.
Posted 10/27/2013 01:32:21 EDT
WMB is a subpar fielder and has shown so all year. It's a bit odd but cause he's "athletic" I give him that. But I don't want him at third. He would have to hit really well, and well, he can't hit wel more »

He's partly right, Bogaerts couldn't make a slightly difficult play in the 2-run inning and I'm confident Drew makes it look almost routine. XB doesn't have the quickness, range, or accurate arm Drew more »

They are not "choke-prone". They simply are bad defensively in areas that keep getting exposed.
Posted 10/27/2013 12:29:19 EDT
No one will remember that part unfortunately. You've got Pedy and Papi carrying this buzzard wagon.
Posted 10/27/2013 12:28:04 EDT
Don't blame this on the umps. Over a nine-inning game Salty, WMB, and unfortunately a green XB will be exposed at some time on the field. Now Farrell has a conundrum. He unceremoniously yanked his bes more »
