In Canada, I believe you can be charged for rescue efforts. Perhaps people would think harder before undertaking trips like this if we charged for rescue if the rescued made stupid or neglient deci more »

Well, if it were by total weight, it wouldn't matter if you checked the bags or carried them on... Not to mention most airlines reward carryons by charging to check.
