One word: Devers. I like Longhi as a pick and Ockimey has potential. But Devers is options 1, 2 and 3.

We will be lucky as heck if both Vasquez and Swihart are good enough to be a platoon. I'm very high on Swihart in particular but I don't think either of these guys are going to be so good we move them more »

Buchholz got it up to 93 today, maybe a little higher as I didn't see the game. I think the Sox might actually consider buying players now, to my chagrin. Just play the kids at this point and prepare more »

Excuse me, the fire sale started 12 hours later! It was bound to happen, and did. I hope we are nowhere near through. The FO might actually get encouraged by tonights game though. Let's hope they tank more »

Mookie had a solid game tonight. Loved the speed he showed to first on the infield "double". And the ability to score from 1st on Nava's double. That kid has a lot going for him including bat speed an more »

They kind of arranged a Peavy auction during tonights game, even announcing that there will be "some sort of move after the game".  And then we lose by 8-3 potentially ( the score so far ). I'm defini more »

It seems to me that given all the stock piling of arms and such, the Redsox plans are to develop from within almost entirely. I'm hopeful they do what it takes to sign Lester, which to me will be at l more »

They just signed this guy also for $300,000:" rel="nofollow">

That makes 3 signings. I bet they are not through.

I don't know if we are in the mode of trading prospects for some studs. It ma well be the other way around. For example, I bet Peavy gets traded within 2 weeks.

It is interesting that they are both arms. The sox are pulling out all the stops to get a high upside starter.

If they are going over, they might just as well keep going and sign more.

I like the picks overall, but we will be unlikely to hit gold with any of them. What I mean by that is that at our drafting slot, we were getting leftovers. But given that situation, I do like the pic more »

I'd still like Xander to be our SS. It just opens up the lineup for a bopper at 3rd. And we need that bopper at 3rd.

Who would have projected that we would be hitting in the collective .240's at this point in the year, with Brock Holt by far the highest average guy? It is just a shock to me. I understand the injurie more »

Sometimes a guy can get largely overlooked as well. For example Workman wasn't highly regarded 2 years ago and now he looks like a starting pitcher in mlb. I think Coyle might end up being a decent ml more »

It's kind of a shame to me if we bring in Drew and we sit Holt when he is playing well. At least they are thinking of using him in other slots. I think that is great news.

David Ortiz hasn't been more than a 3.9 WAR player since 2007. Xander has been that good. He is already more valuable to the team overall than Ortiz, given standard metrics.

As it stands right now, Xander projects as an above 5.0 WAR player right now. He is 33% better than the average player in generating runs. And he is a SS who has yet to really come into his power. Jus more »

Man I hate it when I have to work and can't see a game like the one today because it's on national TV. It's almost worth it to get cable in the office. is worthless during blackout games. Here more »

I think Holt has at least average speed. He has beat out several ground balls which seemed to be a surprise to the fielders. He has been a decent base runner.  I like the guy but it would be better if more »
