Comment on: Ryan Dempster's decision to hit A-Rod was foolish and, worse, costly to Sox - Touching All the Bases - Boston.com

Why didn't they drill him Friday or Saturday at a point in the game when it didn't matter?
What a lot of people here are missing is that it was the timing of this plunking that was moronic.

The message accomplished squat. Didn't hurt A-Rod, that's for sure. He proved that with the home run later on. I have read much more negative reaction than positive. A lot of people think Dempster more »

Pointless game - what? We're in a tight playoff race.
1978 - missed playoffs by one game.
2011 - missed playoffs by one game.
I guess those one games were pointless too.

Plunking A-Rod may have been appropriate. But the timing of this was fatally moronic. We'll never know but this may have directly contributed to a loss. They could have plunked him Friday in a blow more »

No problem with plunking A-Rod. The timing, however, was absolutely moronic and ended up contributing to us losing the game. I can't believe how dumb it was really. There were other times to do thi more »

Nice work Mazz, except that it's been 5 starts and a relief appearance, and so you really mucked up the average innings per start. Sort of important to get the numbers right when you're providing anal more »

One thing I respect McCarver for is his awareness of what's happening everywhere on the field. He points out things about fielders' positioning and about baserunning that other announcers generally ig more »

Remdawg actually had two big hits off Gossage in the 1978 playoff game-double in the 8th, single in the 9th. Those clutch hits are what I remember most about him. more »

So Crawford came into the game 2 for 12 against Wilson with 1 HR and 4 RBI? Okay, .167 isn't a very impressive average, but the power numbers projected to about 50 HR and 150 RBI...look at the fun you more »

04-Idiots, on the one hand you're saying Epstein shouldn't be credited for the Nomar-Cabrera trade, because it was a group decision. But you also seem to be saying he should be the one to blame for tr more »

Why did Wagner pitch the 8th and not the 9th? Pretty simple. The Jays had their 2 best lefthanded hitters up in the 8th-Lind and Overbay. One of the key things Wagner is here for is get out lefthanded more »
