Initial reports from an incident often turn out inaccurate. Hedging your bets until full details are available & verified seems like a good plan (if you value accuracy).

That's certainly not true in my industry. Overdressing may well raise a flag about your cultural fit for a company. Doing your research is the right answer.

If the selection process is done weeks in advance there is always going to be a security problem. Simple fix: make the selections as late as possible - preferably the day of the inspection.
