uehara won't be the closer for much longer but who do they put in that role?
Posted 04/25/2015 12:09:01 EDT
holt is the real deal. a great story and a guy that deserves to be a regular. he's not a star, he just plays like one.

here is another stat: 6 of the 9 guys in the sox lineup last night are batting under .212. unless the hitting starts to improve in a very big way, the air is coming out of this balloon real soon.

mujica is awful. having him on the roster is a liability. giving him the ball is like throwing gas on a fire.

tough game. good win. that's enough.

left field at fenway is more of an art than a science; not an easy position by any measure. he's not an outfielder so exactly what did we expect would happen? maybe he'll get better but for sure he'll more »

this is probably what we're going to get from this team....a few good games and some stinkers as well. they can't be a dominant team with this rotation but they can be good enough to win their divisio more »

apparently porcello has gone to the clay buchholz school of "throw no pitch before its time". you know, eventually, you do have make the pitch. next up...masterson...gulp!! more »

coach farrell note to self: robbie ross, jr stinks. more »

i'm starting to like kelly. i know he only went 5 1/3 but he looks ok. porcello may be fine as well. the bigger concerns are buchhholz and masterson. one and maybe both of these guys aren't going to c more »

once through the rotation, pretty good. twice through the rotation, pretty scary... more »

masterson is scary and not in a good way. i'm not sure he has any idea where the ball is really going. when he goes bad, its like falling off a cliff. having him and buchholz in the same rotation coul more »

only real concern is napoli. glad to hear he's getting more sleep after his off season surgery but he better wake up at the plate. more »

they'll do fine at the plate. pitching....??? uncertain at best. the starters are a question mark at best but the bigger problem may be the bullpen. i don't see how this is going to work. more »
Posted 04/13/2015 10:53:06 EDT
ok....that was exactly what we were afraid of with buchholz. couldn't throw strikes in the first and then started grooving pitches. walking around the mound shaking his head....full meltdown mode....a more »

all this could have been avoided by not giving mujica the ball in the ninth. anytime he is in the game, disaster is only a pitch away. he's not a closer and is never going to be a closer. more »

can't tell much from that game unless the sox are moving to the arctic circle league. the rain was freezing on the dugout railings. that's not baseball. more »

what can you say? this was one of those performances that matched the highest expectations. buchholz...outstanding. the lineup looked formidable in every respect. some outstanding plays in the field; more »

it's not that complicated. we all know the sox will have to be very lucky to succeed with this rotation to say nothing of the question mark at closer. the biggest question marks are buchholz and maste more »

i don't know how many games hanley will play but i also don't think that will be critically important. they have plenty of outfield depth'. castillo would be a starter for any other team in their divi more »

i sure wouldn't characterize this team as "not very good" right now. the line actually looks very good to me. the only weak spot may be catcher but tat remains to be seen. sure, there are question mar more »

the sox don't overvalue prospects??? you have to be kidding. more »

i didn't think buchholz looked that good in his last outing. he was facing a minor league line up and they still hit the ball hard. i wouldn't get overly excited about his prospects. more »

mancada unquestionably makes the sox ore interesting. the odds are he'll also make them better but that remains to be seen. i live in socal and have witnessed the saga of another talented cuban player more »
