About Me: After ignoring MLB for about 20 years, I got hooked again on the '03 Sox and have a big fan ever since. I suffered as a fan of the expansion Senators as a kid, but rooted for the Sox back then also...but NEVER the Yankees. I also love the dead ball era and its rich history.

Comment on: As Red Sox sink, what of the manager? - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog
It is naive to suggest that a manager's style has no or little influence on the players. Have you ever worked for a bad manager, whether their style or level of competence? That makes the workplace more »

Forum Post: Tom Warner on little bobby v returning as mngr in 2013?
I have never thought Valentine was the right fit for this team - never. That became evident quickly (see Pedroia, Youk, etc.). However I'm waiting for Lucchino to accept responsibility for Valentine more »

Forum Post: Seriously... We need to do something.
How about this egomaniac Valentine? If Tito were still managing he'd be blasted up and down this forum. I'd like to know how the players really feel about him and the impact Luchhino's choice - not C more »

Forum Post: Bobby Valentine's Day Massacre
Bobby V should not react to the fans like he did - it just escalates tension for all; including the media. He's already showing he doesn't know how the handle the Boston environment, and needs to lea more »

Forum Post: We just got Marlon Byrd
Bryd will be released for non-production by season's end. Why not just give Che-Hsuan Lin a chance until Jacoby returns. Lin is very good defensively and has a strong arm. He may not hit, but neith more »

Forum Post: POSITIVE THREAD: can BEN take a bow for AVILES, trading SCUTARO +getting ROSS, SCHOPPACH, SWEENEY +BYRD?
I wish I could agree with you at this point, and I hope you're right. But I think there is something fundamentally wrong with this team that goes beyond its bullpen. I'm not thrilled with acquisitio more »

Forum Post: Putting together the 2012 Red Sox Roster: Let's help Ben Cherington!
Please, no more Drew. Don't even think about it. I like the idea of Cuddyer if we can get him. Beltran might be more costly and he's been injury-prone. Wang is an interesting possibility. I watched hi more »

Forum Post: So much for Farrell becoming manager
Makes perfect sense. Why would the Jays do anything to aid a division rival? One other item in the Francona Factor: Adept at handling the voracious Boston media. Not for the faint-hearted and he did a more »

Forum Post: Crawford- Henry
Henry was unwise to have made this comment given the length of Crawford's contract. However Henry did add that he had made similar remarks in the past about other transactions, but yielded to the opi more »

Comment on: 'Red Sox providing riveting drama at Fenway theater'
One of Shaughnessy's better columns, especially the last paragraph. Enough bloodletting. They can start to turn the corner on this when Cherington (presumably) is in place. I do question whether Lacke more »

Forum Post: Count me as one of those preferring to go out of house for our GM
I would think Lucchino isn't going to agree to anyone who could mute his influence the way Theo seemed able to do - post the gorilla suit incident. Thus Cherington, who has been loyal to the organiza more »

Forum Post: If I am New York I will tell Sabathia to BITE ME!
He's staying in New York. He seems to relish the role as Yankees #1, and they need him desperately. They also need starting pitching with Burnett underperforming and Hughes a question mark. C.J. Wi more »

Forum Post: Tandem Closers
Aceves might not be happy in that role, although he has said publicly that he'd do anything to help the team. I've read elsewhere that he would prefer to be a starter. That may not be in the cards, more »

Forum Post: SI's Verducci WEEI: 'Red flags' on Crawford
Players do have off years. I think Crawford will rebound in 2012 and be close to the player he was in Tampa, provided the managerial choice is a good one. By that I mean a manager who creates a prod more »

Forum Post: Why should Saltalamacchia come back?
Unless a good trade can be made for a stronger catcher, keep Salty as the starter with Lavarnway as the backup. Retain Gary Tuck as instructor for both and jettison 'Tek. His time has come. more »

Forum Post: Are You Sure You Don't Want Varitek Back?
Yes, I'm sure. He cannot throw out anyone and would be worse in 2012 being a year older. He can be an embarrassment at the plate. And where was the Captain's leadership in the clubhouse? He's part more »

John Farrell hasn't demonstrated that he's a good manager. If the Sox FO wants him, then wait to see if Toronto fires him before negotiating with the Jays. If I'm Toronto and want to get rid of Farr more »
