Ever the intellectual, Johnny Depp added to his book collection while he was in Boston this week.

Depp and fiance Amber Heard stopped at the Brattle Book Shop in Downtown Crossing on Wednesday, People Magazine reports. Depp was in town for his new role as Whitey Bulger in the film, “Black Mass,’’ based on the Boston mobster.

“They were very nice,’’ Ken Gloss, the book shop’s owner, told PEOPLE. “They stayed for a little more than an hour. Probably if we weren’t closing, they would have stayed longer.’’

Depp reportedly bought a “number of books’’ Gloss added, with poetry and art history subjects.

We’re guessing there will be more Depp and Heard sightings in the next few months, so we’ll keep you posted. Until then, check out the first pictures of Depp as Bulger which surfaced this week.
