Anyone want to go skiing this weekend? Killington Resort just opened today, October 24 at 1:30pm – first in the East for skiing for the third consecutive year. The K-1 gondola will spin today and Friday exclusively for Killington season passholders and Express Card members . Killington, a.k.a. Beast of the East, opens officially to the public Saturday October 26, 2013, with $49 lift tickets, for advanced and expert skiers and riders on the Rime trail.
You may recall that last season Killington gave their passholders the longest ski season by opening first Oct 14, later opening for the public Nov 5, and staying open thru Memorial Day weekend.
This weekend the KBL, Killington Base Lodge, will be open with skier service, food and of course bar service. Killington’s new summit Peak Lodge is not scheduled to open until December of 2013. Still the Beast is back and first!
Who will open next for early season skiing in New England? Sunday River just announced they will open Saturday October 26 at 8am on T-2 and Upper Punch via the Locke Mountain Triple. If Killington doesn’t open to the public till 9am, does that make Sunday River first?! I will let you decide, it’s all good news for New England skiers.
Out west in Colorado, Arapahoe Basin opened October 13, 2013 and nearby Loveland opened the following week on Oct 17, 2013. I know its Red Sox fever time, but ski season is on too. I personally love when the ski season and New England sports overlap. In Solden, Austria this weekend, the US Ski Team kicks off their World Cup racing season too with Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller back and in business. Go Sox, Go Pats, Go Skiing! #winning
