Globe Food section scoops up big award from AFJ

The Association of Food Journalists announced its 2012 winners, and Boston Globe Food Editor Sheryl Julian and her Wednesday Food section were awarded second place in the largest newspaper category (circulation 200,001 and over). First place went to the San Francisco Chronicle and third place to the Chicago Tribune.

Among the individual awards, Jason Wilson at the Washington Post won for columnist writing, the St. Louis Post Dispatch won for Best Food Visual with a piece on blueberries, the Village Voice won Best Food Blog, and David Hagedorn of the Washington Post won for Best Food Essay.

Julian (see a video here of her talking about her Globe job and her readers), is a trained professional cook and was the longtime food writer and stylist for the Globe magazine. She trained at the Cordon Bleu schools in London and Paris and has edited or authored several books, including “The Way We Cook.”
