Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea recall tuna cans due to possible contamination
Certain lots of Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea canned tuna have been recalled because of a loose seal on the can that could cause spoilage or contamination by bacteria or other organisms, according to two alerts issued Wednesday by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Bumble Bee Foods recalled 5-ounce cans of its white albacore packed in water and chunk light tuna in water and vegetable oil with lot codes 3016, 3017, and 3018. The “best-by” dates were January 16-18, 2016. It also recalled some of its Brunswick brands of chuck light and white albacore. Check here for the full list.
Tri-Union Seafood, makers of Chicken of the Sea, has recalled certain lots of its 5-ounce chunk white albacore tuna in water sold at retail stores nationwide in single cans between February 4, 2013, and February 27, 2013. Here’s a list of the UPC codes to check for on the packaging.
At the moment, neither company has disclosed any reports of illnesses caused by the recalled products. Consumers who have affected products can return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
