The 2014 Emmy Awards show has a special tribute planned for Robin Williams.
Billy Crystal, a longtime friend and former co-star of the late comedian, is set to lead the Aug. 25 dedication to Williams, E! confirmed with Emmys executive producer, Don Mischer, Wednesday morning.
“We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable,” Mischer said. “Billy seemed like the perfect choice.”
Last week, Mischer announced that the Emmy producers were planning some sort of tribute to the Oscar winner, who passed away on Aug. 11.
“While we are all still coming to terms with this week’s tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves,” Mischer said in a statement.
Monday’s show will be the first time that Crystal has spoken at length about Williams since news broke of his death. The actor and comedian gave a brief, but heartfelt, rememberance to his late friend on Twitter last week.
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on NBC from Los Angeles at 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25.
