The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet proved a hotbed for celebrity revelations on Monday night. From Matthew McConaughey dishing on his childhood idol, to Jon Voight giving the backstory on his award show wardrobe staple, check out seven things we learned from the Aug. 25 pre-show interviews.

1. Sarah Silverman Packs Liquid Pot

Before winning the award for Writing for a Variety Special (and accepting it barefoot), comedian Sarah Silverman revealed the contents of her purse to Giuliana Rancic on live TV — which included “liquid pot.”

2. Angela Bassett Can’t Watch her Own Show at Night

Emmy nominee Angela Bassett may never have been up for an award on Monday night if it weren’t for a friend who sat through “American Horror Story” episodes with her. Much like in an interview with The Huffington Post in September, on the red carpet Bassett admitted that she had to beg a girlfriend to watch it with her during daylight because the show scared her.

3. Matthew McConaughey Reveals His Childhood Idol

After a fairly awkward interview with interviewer Billy Bush, Matthew McConaughey answered a fan question from the Facebook “Mentions Box,” revealing his childhood idol was his brother, Pat.

“Of course everything he had was my favorite,” McConaughey remembered of Pat, who is six years his senior. The “True Detective” Emmy nominee called his Z28-driving brother, “Cooler than any James Dean ever was to me.”

4. Katherine Heigl Wants to Play an Inmate

During the NBC red carpet pre-show, the “State of Affairs” actress said if she could guest star on any show, it would be Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.”

“I would want to be incarcerated...maybe for auto theft,” the “State of Affairs” actress said.

5. Melissa McCarthy and Husband Have Birthdays a Day Apart

Melissa McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, planned to celebrate her two nominations at the Emmy Awards on Aug. 25. The day of the award show just happened to be Falcone’s 41st birthday, and Aug. 26 is McCarthy’s 44th!

6. Julia Louis-Dreyfus Still Gets Nervous, Wouldn’t Vote for Character

While talking to Shaun Robinson ahead of the show, the Emmy winner (Best Actress in a Comedy, “Veep”) revealed she still gets nervous at the award show. “Do you want to know something bizarre? I am just as nervous as I have ever been,” Louis-Dreyfus revealed, before jokingly asking Robinson if she had any medication in her bag.

Before wrapping up the interview, Robinson asked the “Veep” star if she would vote for her character, Selina Meyer, in a presidential race. “No. No ma’am,” was her reply.

7. Jon Voight Dishes on Trademark Red Carpet Scarf

“Ray Donovan” star Jon Voight has been wearing a scarf to award shows for years, but the trend may never have begun if he hadn’t been forced to wear a too-tight shirt to the Oscars. “Many years ago I was going to an Oscars award show and the tux came back from the cleaners and I had to wear an open collar,” Voight remembered. “And I stopped by a haberdashery and said what can I wear so I put this on.”
