Chelsea Handler is heading to Netflix.
The company announced on Thursday that the outspoken comedian will be getting a new talk show, which will debut on the video streaming service in early 2016. While not much is known about Handler’s upcoming series, it will reportedly focus on pop culture and entertainment issues, similar to her late-night E! program, “Chelsea Lately.”
“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch, so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move,” Handler said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages. No offense to the Shahs Of Sunset.”
The comedian, who will be ending her seven-year run of her show on Aug. 26, will also be producing a slew of other projects for Netflix as a part of her new deal.
Handler will tape an hour-long stand-up special during the Chicago stop of her “Uganda Be Kidding Me” tour on June 20, which will be released on Oct. 16. The late-night host will then shoot four new documentary-style comedy specials in 2015 before her new talk show debuts the following year.
Since E! announced Handler’s departure from the network, there has been a ton of speculation over where she’d land next, but all the rumors can be put to rest now that she’s heading to Netflix.
