Northern Irish actor J.J. Murphy died four days into shooting his scenes for the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Murphy was 86.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Murphy collapsed and died on Friday, Aug. 8.
He was recently cast as Ser Denys Mallister, a member of the Night’s Watch and commander of the Shadow Tower, and was set to film additional scenes over the course of the next few weeks.
Officials have not confirmed whether Murphy’s character will be recast or written off the show, Variety reports.
The native of Northern Ireland, who made a name for himself at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, was also set to appear in the upcoming film, “Dracula Untold.”
