Today is an exciting day for The Grommet. We are launching THINX, a stylish and technologically-advanced leak and stain resistant underwear invented by three young women on a mission.

The three co-founders, twin sisters Miki and Radha Agrawal and close friend Antonia Dunbar, were the winners of the inaugural Product Pitch last year at Fenway Park, where as one of 10 final teams of inventors, they competed for the grand prize of bringing their product to market on The Grommet. THINX has gone from prototype to market in less than a year, guided by the product expertise of The Grommet’s launch team and with support from eight other prize sponsors, including media coverage on Boston.com.

Made of four ultra-thin layers of fabric, each pair of THINX is technologically designed to be leak and stain-resistant, anti-microbial, and moisture-wicking. These breathable and washable panties are an eco-friendly replacement for panty liners and can be worn for added protection even for workouts and nights out. Plus, they look great!

Available in black, sizes XS to XXL.

The innovative panties were conceived during a trip to India, where the three friends noticed the large impact that menstruation management had on the developing world. THINX is partnered with AFRIpads, a Uganda-based organization, to help fund the production of washable, reusable cloth period pads for women to prevent disruption of education and unleveling of the workfield with male peers due to the so-called “week of shame (and isolation).”

This year, Product Pitch is slated to be held on March 20th at the landmark Fenway Park again. It will pay tribute to simple and good -- or simply good -- household product innovation. These “household hacks” may originate from a maker’s garage or basement, but they solve a problem beautifully and simply. Submissions open at the end of January, 2014.
