BULLS & BEARS
Infinium Software Inc. By Joann Muller, Globe Staff
The stock was trading at 5 a share at the end of March 1997, and zoomed to 19 15/16 a year later. One reason Infinium's sales are booming is that many companies are replacing their corporate software systems to rid themselves of potential problems associated with the year 2000 computer bug. The glitch threatens to wreak havoc on computers that can't recognize dates in the new millennium. Infinium offers a range of business software, from programs that help companies run their financial or human services departments to programs that improve materials management or process manufacturing efforts. he company's roots are in providing software and services for IBM AS/400 computers, but it is launching products that will run on Microsoft's Windows NT operating system. Infinium is also trying to expand internationally, where it has historically played a bit part. The company, based in Hyannis, recently changed its name from Software 2000. |
