Q. My carport has a painted metal roof. Condensation forms on the underside
of the roof and drips on my car. I had the metal sandblasted and repainted it,
but condensation still drips on my car and leaves white spots. How can I
prevent that condensation and those white spots on the car?
B.S., Newton A. Try priming the underside of the roof with a good-quality metal primer, then finish it with an oil-based house paint. That won't stop the condensation but it might prevent those drips from being white. To head off the condensation, insulate the ceiling. That is more complicated than it sounds because any insulation must be covered by a fire-resistant material, such as plasterboard. And that would require a whole new ceiling. But the ceiling will be warm and condensaiton is less likely to occur. Since it is a carport, air circulation should not be a problem, unless there are walls or any other structure that is restricting air flow, especially directly under the roof.
