Q. When I took up a rug from my flagstone indoor entry, the area had faded quite a bit, so now I have two-toned flagstones. How can I even out the color?

SHEILA MURPHY, Peabody

A. I don't think it is so much fading as it is clean; the flagstone stayed cleaner under the rug. If you keep the rug off, the color will even out eventually. To hasten the evening out, wash the whole floor with an extra strength solution of Spic and Span and water, let this solution sit on the stone for two to five minutes, then scrub and rinse.
