Q. Water leaked onto a grass cloth wall and stained it badly. Could I have one or two strips removed and new grass cloth put up? I have a few rolls left over.

M.W., Newton

A. Yes. Most grass cloth has a backing, making it behave like wallpaper. Whether it has or not, the old can be stripped with a wallpaper stripper additive and water. Clean remaining paste and glue size from the wall, apply a new glue size, then the strips. The new strips may be lighter than those on the wall, but it can't be helped.
