TUTU TO RESIGN LEADERSHIP POST
Date: Saturday, September 9, 1995 Tutu's worldwide championing of human rights along with his forceful, nonviolent campaign to tear down apartheid made him one of the best-known religious figures of the past two decades. Following his retirement next year, Tutu, 64, plans to spend a year on sabbatical leave at Emory University in Atlanta.
Although traditional Jewish religious law disapproves of homosexuality, the United Jewish Appeal, which raises money from American Jews, is a largely secular body that tries to appeal to all segments of the Jewish community.
So far about 30 people have signed up for the trip, scheduled for Dec.
18-27 at a cost of $2,500 per person, including airfare from New York. The
