Cardinal Bernard Law resigns
Facing mounting outrage from Boston-area Catholics and clergy over the priest sexual abuse crisis, Cardinal Bernard Law announced today that he would resign as head of the Boston Archdiocese after 18 years in the post. Share your thoughts on the cardinal's resignation and his career in Boston. How will he be remembered? What effect will his departure have? And what comes next for the archdiocese?
People dont remember what good all so has been done...........
what's worse than a pedophile? an enabler in a position of such power that the extent of the crimes gets broader than even the most cynical mind can imagine. criminal action is warranted and needed.

Law's resignation can only help the archdiocese. His arogance and denial of his large role in the abuse of hundreds of innocent children have only fueled the problems currently faced by the archdiocese. This man belongs in jail being held accountable for his role as the chief aid and abettor to so many abuses. The individuals who perpetrated the abusive acts are definitely acountable and so to is Law and all his aids for each and every abuse that took place after they were made aware of the problem. At the minimum they are all guilty of child endangerment. If Law was not protected by the church he would be in jail for his part in all this mess. So instead of a few instances of abuse Law himself and his immediate staff should be held directly accountable for more than half of all these horrendous deads. In the real business world if a mere reports of sex descrimination is not acted on immediately the management and company as a whole are held accountable. So to should Law and his cronies be held accountable. His resignation is way too little and years too late!!!!!!!!

The next step is to see that he gets time in jail.

Finally, and now it is time to see the Catholic Church follow Arthur Andersen into oblivion. Has anyone else noticed that this is not just a Boston problem: Italy, Ireland, South America, Dallas, L.A.....come on people, wake up. This is a worldwide money making conglomerate of pedophiles. Sure some happen to be gay, others are heteroiod but the bottom line is the entire organization is a scam. Richard W. Lewis, Sr.
The wrath of God was no match for the Boston Globe.
It's comical to see that people think this alone will make a difference. The rampant abuse of innocent children has been going on for decades virtualy unfettered. Law is merely one of many who sat by and allowed it to continue. At best, this should be the first step in an upheaval in the Catholic Church. Wake up people!

It's the first step. It'll take atleast a decade to cleanse the Church. Hopefully the AG will pursue criminal charges against all involved. I can't believe that any Grand Jury will not find against these men. God will have to forgive these men, I just don't have it in me.
The Roman Catholic preisthood is a 2000 year old fraternity. (note the word) Cardinal Law since this saga has begun has been acting like a College Frat Boy caught with his pants around his ankles. Say anything, do anything, just make them go away. Quite truthfully him leaving doesn't really change much. So the Fraternity chapter has a new president? Doesn't change the brothers or how the chapter operates. What is the key question is have the folks in Brighton learned anything? Or is it just shuffle Law into the background and let a different face say the same things? If it's not Law repeating the platitudes will it change anything? Or is this "change" just because the media trucks haven't gone away and the donors have? Once the trucks go back to Needham will it be back to business as usual? Ask yourself that. It's the key take away from this "event". If Bernie goes... does it change anything other than the guy in front of the camera. What Boston needs is an activist Cardinal who is going to clean the mess from top to bottom. Personally I don't forsee that happening. With this conservative a Pope (whose views are far enough out in right field for Boston that he owes the turnpike authority 50 cents). I fully expect us to get a syncophant beholden to the Curia and kept on a very tight leash. His marching orders will be to clean the mess up quick. Stay out of the media spot light and say anything to get the donors back. Change? a bit... but not the radical change that the situation demands. We don't need Bernie gone, we need him and ALL of his auxiliary bishops gone, as well as a new crew at the chancery in Brighton.
