It’s already time to look forward to Patriot’s Day. The 119th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015.
Today the Boston Athletic Association announced that the online-only, rolling registration for the 2015 Boston Marathon opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014.
Just as in the past years, the runners for the 119th Boston Marathon with the fastest qualifying times in each gender and age group will be allowed to register first on baa.org, according to the race’s rolling admission policy. Other qualified runners can follow who beat the qualifying time by 20 minutes or more.
- Wednesday, September 10, the race opens up to runners who beat the qualified time by 10 minutes or more.
- Friday, September 12, runners who beat the qualified time by five minutes or more can register.
- Saturday, September 13, registration closes so the B.A.A. can evaluate whether there is space for registration to open again, in a similar rolling system, on Monday, September 15 through Wednesday, September 17.
“Our qualifying standards are among the features which make the Boston Marathon special, and our registration process recognizes the perseverance needed to gain entry,” said Tom Grilk, B.A.A. Executive Director, in a prepared statement. “Our rolling admission schedule will provide runners with the fastest qualifying times in their age and gender group the ability to have their entry accepted in an orderly and systematic manner.”
Qualifying times are unchanged from past years. The size of the field was opened up to 34,000 in 2014 from 27,000 in 2013. Runners have been working to qualify since September 14, 2013 for this marathon, but their registration isn’t complete until their times have been verified.
