Cultural changes and word frequencies

Researchers analyzed 500 billion words in 4 percent of the world’s books to discern how words and concepts that people write and read about have changed over two centuries. Researchers tracked the frequency of words each year by counting the number of times a word is mentioned in a given year divided by the total number of words written that year. Here's how frequently some selected Boston-related words appeared.
