Blame it on wireless?

The latest news from Verizon jumps out at one for the sheer numbers involved:

Verizon Communications Inc. on Monday said 21,000 employees have accepted an early-retirement buyout offer and will leave by the end of the week as the No. 1 U.S. telephone company works to cut costs to offset weak local phone sales.
