The Job Hunt

What are BostonWorks' Weblogs?

In The Boston Globe each Sunday, we publish several original articles focusing on the employment, career management, and recruiting issues facing our readers. We're very proud of our original content, but there's a limit to what we can research, write, edit, and publish on our own. That's why we started the Job Blog and the HR blog: to take advantage of the fact that there is a great big web of that useful and reliable information out there.

Our vision for these blogs is to provide links to that information and, we hope, to help people find jobs.

If you have questions, comments or suggestions, .

Jason is a founding contributor to "The Job Blog" and "The HR Blog" and has written for the past four
years on his personal blog, at JPButler.com. Jason has worked in the Internet space since 1997, as a project manager for PlanetAll, as a program manager for Amazon.com, as director of product development for Abuzz, as senior product development manager for BostonWorks, and now as the director of marketplace products for Boston.com. During off-cycles from these projects, he has built houses with Habitat for Humanity in New Zealand, Guatemala and Thailand, and taught English in the People's Republic of China. Jason grew up in Holliston, where he currently resides.

Erin is the Public Relations Manager at BostonWorks. A self-described news junkie, Erin has been in public
relations since 1989, working on the agency side for a range of technology and consumer clients including Hewlett Packard, Kodak, Kohl's Department Stores and Wal-Mart. After living for 8 years in Tokyo, Japan, Erin came to Boston to pursue the college degree... and hasn't left yet.

Maureen is the Diversity Recruiter for Osram Sylvania, Inc. and is also the former Director of
Career Services at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. A popular workshop and conference presenter, Maureen specializes in career and employment topics including millennials, college student recruitment, employees with disabilities, GLBT issues, and business etiquette. She is a regular contributor to Quintcareers.com and has also run the volunteer and internship program at the New England Aquarium. Maureen calls herself "a resume-critiquing junkie" and admits that she reads help wanted ads for fun.

Stephanie has twenty years of experience in career management, human Resources, and staffing.
She currently consults with executives and organizations on their career transition needs. She is a former Director of Client Services for a Massachusetts-based human resources consulting firm where she was responsible for business development and operations. Previously she worked as the Director of Human Resources for a public school district in southern New Hampshire and as career and alumni services director at Daniel Webster College.

Diane is the founder and executive director of the Downtown Women's Clubs in Boston, New York,
Pittsburgh, and Washington DC. When she's not working behind the scenes to expand the DWC platform, she runs professional development workshops for corporations and business organizations. Currently, she's working on some follow-ups to her first book Table Talk: The Savvy Girl's Alternative to Networking (2003). She also sits on the Women's Network Advisory Board for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Advisory Council for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and the New Group Steering Committee for the Institute of Contemporary Art. Diane, an avid reader, golfer and soccer fanatic, lives in Brookline with her son.

Jason has been involved in the recruiting business
for twelve years. He has a strong interest in technology and how it can help the recruiting process. Currently, he runs a recruiting firm called Davis Search Group that specializes in the semiconductor industry. Jason is also the founder of Recruiting.com, a popular recruiting blog, and also runs another website called Semiconductorjobs.com.

Doug has been involved with digital content products since the mid-1980's, holding managerial
positions with two different software divisions of Houghton Mifflin and with Monster.com. A former adjunct professor at Emerson College and a published author, Doug has had a lifelong interest in career and workforce development issues. With two young FWAs (Future Workers of America) under his roof at his Natick home, he has additional incentive to pay attention to the ever-evolving world of work.

Mary Helen is a strategic management consultant with extensive media expertise. As president of
Gillespie Interactive, she integrates leadership, entrepreneurship and global perspective into profitable strategies for corporate environments and non-profit organizations. Mary Helen is also BostonWorks' Savvy Manager. Her column appears monthly in BostonWorks' Hiring Hub.

Kim consults with organizations and senior
executives on complex career transition and workforce
planning issues. Before joining Keystone she was a senior trainer with Dale Carnegie Training. As a certified Dale Carnegie instructor, Kim has taught courses on human relations, communication, leadership, sales, and public speaking and presentation skills to thousands of people, from students to executives. She is an active member of the Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA) and Human Resource Leadership Forum and frequently addresses professional associations and networking groups, including NEHRA and Financial Executives International.

Johanna consults, speaks, and writes on
managing high-technology product development. She
helps managers, teams, and organizations become more effective with her pragmatic approaches to the issues of project management, risk management, and people management. Johanna assists her clients in applying effective practices that create successful teams and projects. You can see her writing at jrothman.com or at her blogs. Johanna is the author of Hiring Technical People, and coauthor of Corrective Action for the Software Industry.

Jason has found the perfect blend between the IT
world and journalism at BostonWorks. A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism, Jason reported in Washington, D.C., for PCWorld.com, and also covered environmental issues while in school in Chicago. Before that, he designed online help systems for Cisco Systems and General Electric. When he's not exploring the endless possibilities of online media, you can find the Newton resident at a Red Sox game or boning up on his Spanish by watching cheesy soap operas.
