LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

This is different

April 24, 2007

Welcome to the new On Call magazine.

After nine years of being a print magazine that focused on healthcare and healthcare professionals in the Greater Boston area, On Call is now a Web-based publication. We're still keeping the same focus, but you will find that some things will be different. For instance, this new format makes it easier to get information to you, and I plan to take advantage of that. You can expect to find something new here on a weekly basis. That doesn't mean what you see today will be gone next week. You'll be able to access each story and column from the front page for about four weeks before it goes into the archives, (which you will also be able to access from this site). But every week, we'll post another story or another column that spotlights the work you do or offers helpful information you can use to nurture and expand your career.

The new online version of On Call will also make more resources readily available to you. Features (such as this issue's first in a series of articles by Janet Cromer about medical humanities) and columns (such as Helen Osborne's "In Other Words" column that this month explores ways to help patients talk about the cost of healthcare) will contain live links so you will always have a way to get more information quickly. The Calendar will be different too. Now, a listing of upcoming events will always be available with the click of a mouse, and you will be able to make direct contact with the sponsors to find out more or to register.

But what I think I like most about this new format is that it will also be easier for you to get in touch with us. I want to hear what you think (good or bad) about the stories we put up on this site, and I also want to hear about what you would like to see us do here. How can we make On Call a better publication for you? You will find my e-mail link at the bottom of this letter as well as links on other pages that you can use to send us your responses and opinions. I encourage you to use them, and I look forward to having a dialogue with you.
