Founded by physicians in 1979 as a non-profit health maintenance organization (HMO) Tufts Health Plan over 20 years later is still led by physicians and sets the standard for outstanding quality, service and value in health care. In 2000, Tufts Health Plan was named the best overall HMO in the CareData Reports survey of Boston area HMOs.
Tufts Health Plan is affiliated with some of the nations premier specialists, hospitals and health care centers. The Excellent Accreditation Status is reserved for those products that deliver the highest quality of care and service, and whose clinical and administrative systems far exceed NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.
