This is a example of what nursing is all about. We work the 11-7 shift at Emerson ER in Concord. On this night, we had an admission from a local nursing home. The patient was in extremely poor condition It was evident that the patient was dying. We made the patient as comfortable as we could, making sure that our charge was not in pain. The patient was alone with no family present. What Bea did after this has shown me what nursing should be. Bea asked that we move the patient to a quieter room, She then held this patient's hand and spoke to her until the end, making her comfortable, speaking to her and consoling her until the patient passed. Bea was determined that no patient should or would be alone at the time of passing. This is compassion. She is a role model for all nurses.
