I have worked with Kathleen S. for eight years at The Elder Service Plan of the North Sore in Lynn, MA. Kathy, in her role as a nurse practitioner, works with elders on a daily basis. She assesses their physical needs and communicates with them on "human" basis demystifying the sometimes scary medical world. She is able to explain complex medical problems in a way that an elder can understand. She is extremely compassionate in all her conversations with participants and families. Kathy has gone to an elder's home to assess medical conditions for an elder that can not get to the office. Kathy is part of an inter-disciplinary team. I admire her clinical skills. She is able to assess and communicate needs of an elder so that the entire team understands. I have learned so much from her. She is always looking at ways to better her skills. Kathy also volunteers for a number of the other agencies including Special Olympics. She sends many weekends volunteering for the medical staff at Special Olympics. In closing, I feel privileged to be able to nominate Kathleen Savage for BostonWorks Salute to Nurses.
