For me, there is no one particular interaction with Lisa that stands out as extraordinary because every interaction with her in our extremely fast-paced and chaotic workplace is a kind, caring, and professional one. Lisa initiates family involvement in the cases of all patients for whom she cares. Despite at times having several critically ill patients, Lisa always ensures that she has the time to address all family questions and involves all other appropriate parties, including physicians, social workers, and clergy, to keep her patients and their families in the light during some of the darkest moments of their lives. She is a strong advocate for the best medical care for her patients, engaging in frequent dialogue with physicians and other clinical staff around treatment options. I have observed Lisa on numerous occasions tracking down physicians to inquire about orders and brainstorm other options. Even with her extremely vast knowledge base and strong clinical skills, Lisa remains humble, never placing herself on a pedestal above any of her colleagues whether they be nurses, physicians, or administrative or support staff. She speaks in a way that is organized, concise, and clear, using language that is audience-appropriate. Lisa works hard every moment that she is on the job and displays excellence in nearly every domain of nursing care. She is an inspiration to everyone that she comes across. For theses reasons and more, I would like to nominate Lisa Martin for this award and recognition.
