In need of table topic for the weekend? Or maybe you’re just catching up on a week’s worth of news? Here are some of the women that we think made waves this week — read a bit about them here, and dive into the links for more depth. Then pass them along. We’ve shared them with you, now it’s your turn.

Becky Hammon

The San Antonio Spurs announced Tuesday that they hired six-time WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon as their new assistant coach. Hammon, who SI.com reports is “the first full-time, paid female assistant on an NBA coaching staff,” is a retired former member of the San Antonio Stars and was part of the women’s national team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she took home the bronze. An official release from the team quoted head coach Gregg Popovich, who said of Hammon, “I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.” Sports Illustrated’s Boomer Esiason points out the fact that the team’s release “never mention the fact that [Hammon] is a female,” stating Popovich’s choice to announce rather than celebrate sets the bar for “breaking down barriers and making a difference.”

Emma Watson

The former “Harry Potter” star is taking her new role as the United Nations Goodwill ambassador very seriously. After Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc was quoted saying, “[Women] should not laugh loudly in front of all the world and should preserve her decency at all times,” thousands of women tagged photos of themselves laughing with the hashtag #direnkahkaha. Watson followed suit, changing her profile pic and posting a photo of her getting her giggle on in front of the South End's Beehive on Twitter.

The photo picked up more than 16,000 Favorites and 8,000 retweets and the hashtag is still going strong.

#FeminstsAreUgly

What an ugly hashtag. Like, seriously? Some women are taking it into their own hands to respond: Flooding an inherently distasteful hashtag with photos of their own smiling selfies. Buzzfeed traced the feminist response to activist Lily Bolourian, who kicked off the movement with the below Tweet:

Others are less amused and have written the hashtag off as just another gross effort at trolling, but think of it what you will. The social response is for the most part overwhelmingly positive and well, pretty darn beautiful. Here are some we spotted in the Hub:

Olivia Wilde

Glamour’s September cover star Olivia Wilde posed while breastfeeding her 3-month-old son Otis for a photo in the accompanying shoot. In the interview, Wilde acknowledged that her own breastfeeding regimen doesn’t look quite so glamorous, saying, “I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breast-feeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.” Yahoo! Health notes the image was released in perfect timing with World Breastfeeding Week, coinciding with Wilde’s recent show of support of maternal health awareness at the UN Global Moms + Social Good Conference.

Also, snaps for Glamour for a surprisingly effective and tasteful use of a high-profile fashion shoot to report on social commentary...unlike, some people.

And some bonus points:

— IndieWire.com awesomely rounds up, “Women Centric, Directed, and Written Films Playing Near You”

— Michelle Obama made an awesome joke at the African Leaders Spousal Summit on Wednesday: “Women are smarter than men. And the men can’t complain because you’re outnumbered today.” LOL!

— Say what you will, Taylor Swift is a sweetheart. She sang a private show for a 6-year-old cancer patient at Boston Children’s Hospital on Sunday and gave a fan $90 to buy birthday Chipotle. Your move, One Direction.
