A New York location of the luxury Italian lingerie brand La Perla came under fire after Twitter user Michael Rudoy (@mrudoy) snapped a photo of one of their mannequins. Dressed in a bright red bikini and positioned with a hand on her hip, the mannequin features visible rib cage protrusions on the side of her torso. Rudoy posted:

Indeed.

The label quickly responded via social media on TwitLonger yesterday, stating:

We have an update on this issue: The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique. We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used. We appreciate and value everyone’s comments, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

While some have praised La Perla for their swift movements, other Twitter users argue that the mannequins should have never been used in the first place and are using hashtag #NotBuyingIt to show their disapproval of the situation.

The brand has also taken to social media to share their new store concept, which feature what appear to be relatively healthy looking torsos wearing their designs:

La Perla has a Boston shop on Boylston Street, and we have reached out to corporate to confirm that these mannequins have been or will be removed from the location as well. However, if you happen to by down by the Arlington T-stop and are able to snap a photo of the current storefront, please Tweet it to me at the handle below.
