Chef Kristen Kish of “Top Chef” and Menton fame and RunKeeper entrepreneur Jason Jacobs will be two of 11 noteworthy names to star in the retailer’s “The Faces of 2014 People Campaign.” The two Bostonians sit alongside the likes of “Always Sunny” actor Glenn Howerton, professional surfer Warren Smith, and husband-wife musical duo Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez of Johnnyswim.
The campaign, which officially drops today, can be seen thoughout the city and in upcoming September fashion issues. The locally-aligned icons were chosen to celebrate the retailer’s new locations in Boston, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
“The whole campaign was about trying to get closer to the customer and showing locals, people that they may know from their communities,” Uniqlo public relations Vice President Eileen T. McMaster told Boston.com. “This is our first entry into Boston and we wanted to showcase people who represent the area — as it almost gives a feeling of home when you see people you recognize.”
While Los Angeles and Philadelphia have their own local heroes, Kish and Jacobs for Boston seem appropriately fitting as culinary arts and tech innovation thrive in the city they represent.
This is the second foray into fashion for Kish, who previously appeared in GAP’s styld.by campaign in collaboration with shopping and retail news site, Racked, last October. For Uniqlo, Kish appears in a clean-cut denim-on-denim look — which is proving to be fall retail’s biggest push — while Jacobs is shot wearing the brand’s signature ultra light down.
