Globe staff photographer John Tlumacki on the story behind this photo:“Sometimes when you wander behind the scenes at the Marshfield Fair, you spot a moment that makes clear why these events are such an attraction, not only to those who attend, but for the kids who put so much devotion into having the best animal at the fair. Here, 14-year-old Sydney Grady from Duxbury rests atop the back of Buttons, a 2-year-old Jersey calf. It’s not unusual to find Sydney, a member of the Farmtastic 4-H of Duxbury, spending most of her long days at the fair grooming and cleaning Buttons, who, she says, also turns out to be a comfortable place to rest between chores.’’ The Marshfield Fair runs through Sunday.
