Recent bird sightings on Cape Cod (as of Dec. 23) as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
A female painted bunting is still visiting the feeder at 7 Harbor View Lane in East Orleans, observable from the road.
Birds at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary included a Baltimore oriole at the feeders, a red-shouldered hawk, and 65 red-winged blackbirds.
Found on the Buzzard’s Bay Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 19 were an impressive variety of species that would normally have migrated to Central America by now, including an indigo bunting in Falmouth, an ovenbird in Marion, and 2 Nashville warblers. Other highlights included 3 Barrow’s goldeneyes, 2 Eurasian wigeon, a redhead, 2 barred owls, 2 yellow-breasted chats, 4 orange-crowned warblers, 2 clay-colored sparrows, and a white-crowned sparrow.
Miscellaneous bird sightings this week included a chipping sparrow and 13 northern bobwhites at a feeder in Truro, a fox sparrow and a field sparrow at a feeder in Harwich, and a canvasback behind the post office in Falmouth.
