After the children’s Mass at our local church, our family used to enjoy doughnuts at the parish center with many of the other parishioners. But the center was taken down so that a new, multi-million-dollar building could go up in its place. While leaving church one Sunday, my 4-year-old son saw an architectural sketch of the proposed center. With much excitement, he said, “Look, Mama, there’s the new doughnut shop!”

Happy Days

My wife and I went out to dinner at La Galleria 33 in the North End. Heather, in her early 20s, was our waitress. She asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion. I said that, yes, as a matter of fact, we were celebrating our 30th. She promptly wished my wife a happy birthday. Celebrating our 30th anniversary, I managed to choke out. Needless to say, my wife was in heaven, and Heather helped make our 30th wedding anniversary memorable.
