Rooting for roots
My brothers, having long since graduated from Catholic Memorial, now have families of their own. My brother Brian was watching a high school hockey game with his 5-year-old son, Fionn. After the usual questions – Who is the red team? Who is the white team? Which team is closer to home? Which team are you rooting for? – my brother said: “While Hingham is closer, I’m rooting for Catholic Memorial because that’s where I went to high school. As a matter of fact, that’s where Uncle Kevin went to high school, too.” To which my nephew responded: “Is that where you met him?”

Who likes Ike?
My then 12-year-old daughter Sarah was watching Tina Turner on TV talk about how happy she was in her new relationship. Her mother, watching with her, said, “I bet she didn’t feel that way when she was married to Ike.” With a quizzical look on her face, Sarah said, “Tina Turner was married to President Eisenhower?”
