Finding the funny
Comedian Seth Meyers remembers what it was like as the cast of Saturday Night Live prepared to go on the air that September.

“I moved to New York [on] August 20th of that year, and our first show was September 29th. It was a crazy night for me because it was both my first night on Saturday Night Live, a show I’d been watching my whole life, as well as the first Saturday Night Live back after 9/11. [Producer] Lorne Michaels invited Rudy Giuliani and all these police officers and firemen – it was amazing. You know, I look back at it and realize how positive it was that it let people know that it was all right to laugh again. And also, you saw that spirit of New York and you got a sense of ‘I think everything’s going to be OK. It’s going to take awhile, but everything’s going to be OK.’ ”![]()
